WAEC Examination Guide for Students

📌 Understand the WAEC Scheme of Work

  • Review each subject’s official WAEC syllabus.
  • Break it down into weekly or monthly study plans.
  • Use past questions to identify frequently tested topics.

📝 How to Answer WAEC Questions Step-by-Step

  • Read the Instructions Carefully: Never rush into answering. Take 2 minutes to fully understand the requirements.
  • Underline Keywords: Identify command words like “Explain,” “List,” “Describe,” “Calculate.”
  • Plan Your Answer: For theory or essay questions, outline points first.
  • Answer What Is Asked: Don't add irrelevant info to fill up space.
  • Use Bullet Points: For listing or highlighting key facts. It’s easier for WAEC markers to grade.
  • Use Formulas and Units: In Physics, Chemistry & Maths, write formulas first before solving. Don’t forget units!
  • Label Diagrams: In Biology/Geography, neat and labeled diagrams score higher.

📊 Marking Scheme Awareness

  • Each question carries specific marks. Don't waste too much time on low-mark questions.
  • Break long answers into steps—each step usually earns a mark.
  • Include definitions, laws, or principles clearly. WAEC allocates marks for these.

🕐 Time Management During Exams

  • Start with questions you are confident in.
  • Spend about 1 minute per mark. A 10-mark question = 10 minutes max.
  • Leave space for skipped questions and return later if time permits.
